FOOTY SEASON
it’s footy season in Australia
don’t ask anyone for dinner
they’ll talk about scores and
how so-and-so kicked a winner
in jostling part of competition
teams are jockeying for position
tipping competitions are held
if you don’t barrack, then listen
used to follow it religiously
like everyone else years ago
got out of touch when kid
looked unconscious from blow
now notice all the injuries
gets in way of seeing great skill
fear crunch of body on body
looks like all of them out to kill
