SOFTBALL

sheilahs in high-schools
play a form of baseball
with very similar rules
in Oz it’s called softball

used to play short-stop
not because of midget
size, but liked excitement
of close-in, anxious fidget

strike one, batter misses
ball flies through to catcher
next strike is off line, and
foul! calls umpire-teacher

strike three! ball’s king-hit
outfielder chases, can’t catch
overthrows to third base and
home-runner wins match
