STRIKE ONE

Click-clack, click-clack
Metal against concrete
Black leather gloves
Red plastic helmet
Teal and blue aluminum bat
Spit mixed with pine tar
Stretched hamstrings
Four practice swings
Dirt path leading to the plate
Deep breath, practice swing
White leather with red laces spinning
Muscles tensed for three seconds
Ping
Foul ball
