Winter Tree
You seem to be leaving…
Leaving slowly like
The light of autumn
Which drifts away,
A little every day,
As the golden leaves
Fall one by one,
Shivering and dying,
Down, to the
Damp, dark ground.
You are leaving so slowly
I hardly notice,
Yet, each day you stay away,
I feel the cold fingers of winter
Reaching closer to my heart,
Each day I feel emptier
And more alone…
…before long
I will be as cold and silent
As a winter tree.
